ISC Press Release - Passing of Milt Stark
Saturday, July 26, 2014
The fast pitch/ softball world and the International Softball Congress is saddened by the death of Milt Stark, a former Executive Director, All-World Tourney player, and member of the ISC Hall of Fame.
Mr. Stark died July 24th, 2014, at the age of 82. He served the ISC for 35 years from 1974 – 2008. He was a member of the famed Long Beach Nitehawks and was an All-World catcher in 1966 and 1968. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1981.
Milt Stark was serving as Secretary for the organization when ISC Founder Carroll Forbes died in 1982. Milt became Executive Director at that point and guided the ISC through many years of significant growth. He made the ISC truly an international organization when he took the World Tournament to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1987
Milt was a strong and articulate voice for men’s major fast pitch softball and one of the sport’s best-known leaders and advocates for decades. He was truly a larger-than-life personality, an avid reader, with an immense devotion to detail befitting a man who spent a career as a high school English teacher in Southern California. Milt Stark loved his wife, Dianna and was very proud of his son, Matt, who played professional baseball and spent a time as a catcher for the Boston Red Sox.
Milt will be buried in his hometown of Taft, California. Funeral arrangements are in care of Erickson & Brown Funeral Home (661-765-4111) in Taft www.ericksonandbrown.com
