Pat
Sullivan is a veteran member of the International Softball Congress and a
respected leader in this growing organization. Sullivan is in his third
term as the ISC’s Northern Vice President after spending time as the
Iowa ISC Area Commissioner and as a member of the ISC Executive Committee.
With his past opportunities and in his current position Sullivan has
promoted the game of fast-pitch softball and has been a giant advocate of
the game.
Sullivan grew up in East Dubuque, Illinois and has been living in
Dubuque, Iowa for the past 33 plus years with his wife and three wonderful
boys. Judi, Sullivan’s wife of 33 years, is a Registered Nurse and a
House Supervisor at Mercy Health Center. Joe, the oldest of the boys,
graduated from the University of Iowa in 1990 and works for Georgia
Pacific in St. Louis, Missouri. David works in Denver, Colorado as a
salesman for America Furniture and the youngest child, Mike, lives in
Dubuque and works as a salesman for Truck Country. Sullivan has been
working at Flexsteel Furniture as a production worker for the past 35
years. He also spent 20 years as a high school and college basketball
official before retiring in 1990 and spends his free time on the golf
greens and in front of his television playing the roll of arm-chair
quarterback.
In 1961 Sullivan spent a year at Laras College in Dubuque on a
basketball scholarship. Sullivan also served for two years in the U.S.
Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1962 through 1964. During his time in the
Army, Sullivan was introduced a game that would become a fixation in his
life. In 1963 Sullivan joined up with Arenz Shoes from Dubuque as a
catcher. In 1965 Sullivan had the opportunity to play with Lange’s
Insurance in the first ISC World Tournament at Rock Island, Illinois.
Through out his career with the ISC Sullivan played on a number of teams
and was named to the ISC All World Team as a catcher for Kopper-Powers
Ford from Dubuque in 1969.
Sullivan was a member of eleven ISC Iowa State Championship teams,
nine Iowa-Illinois-Wisconsin Tri-State Tournament Championship teams and
nine Dubuque, Iowa Kiwanis Tournament Championship teams. One of Sullivan’s
greatest accomplishments was his election into the Dubuque, Iowa
Fast-pitch Hall of Fame in 1985.
Sullivan is pleased with the direction that the ISC is moving. He
talks of the opportunity that the ISC may have with the ISC Championship
Game at the World Tournament being televised. “I think if we can [have
our championship game televised] the game of fast-pitch softball will
survive and the younger generation will be involved,” said Sullivan. The
direction the organization is headed will stay on the right track as long
as Pat Sullivan is there to lead the charge. He is a determined leader
with strong motives and a hearty passion for the game. Fast-pitch softball
is in good hands, the hands of Pat Sullivan.
