ISC Executive Director Ken
Hackmeister and Developmental Vice-President Wayne Fisher are pleased to
announce the appointment of three highly qualified individuals to
positions in charge of two initiatives within the ISC Developmental
Program.
These two new Developmental initiatives were approved at the recent ISC
Board of Directors meeting during the ISC Men’s World Tournament in
Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
I. Pitching Clinics for Boys and Young Men
In an effort to create the basis for competitive fastpitch
teams, the ISC is dedicated to conducting pitching clinics for boys and
young men throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Well known national and international men’s fastball pitcher Doug Gillis
and his Midland Explorers teammate and current ISC Player Representative
Kyle Beane have been named ISC Lead Pitching Instructor and Pitching
Clinics Administrator, respectively.
Doug and Kyle will work together to promote and assist local pitching
clinic efforts across North America. They will develop written
materials for local pitching clinic administrators on how to organize,
promote, advertise, solicit male students, arrange local pitching
instructors, and assist in procuring teaching facilities.
They will also work with ISC commissioners and deputy developmental
commissioners to encourage them to conduct pitching clinics on a
year-round basis. Their responsibilities will also include
encouraging directors of adult-level tournaments to hold a pitching clinic
for boys and young men during their invitational tournaments.
II. Tuning Baseball Players in to Benefits of
Fastpitch
In another ISC Developmental initiative, commissioner Tom
Crouch of DeKalb, Illinois, has agreed to spearhead a new effort by the
ISC to target the immediate post-high school and post-college young men
involved in baseball to introduce them to the sport of fastpitch softball.
Tom has extensive experience with just such a program in his hometown,
where the University of Northern Illinois is located, and now hopes to
expand recruitment and development efforts throughout the United States
and Canada.
Both Fisher and Hackmeister are enthusiastic about the new initiatives and
the new positions created to bring them to reality:
“The ISC is dedicated to rekindling the great sport of men’s fastpitch,
which has seen a decline in recent years. With the talents, skills,
and dedication of Doug, Kyle, and Tom, we believe we’re taking the first
real steps in turning the tide for a resurgence of men’s fastpitch”,
according to Wayne Fisher.
Hackmeister eagerly supported the move and pointed out that the pitching
clinic efforts are being partially funded from the increased Out of Area
Player Fees charged for the 2002 season.
