They said they would share the wealth, and they did!
Fulfilling a commitment made when they were successful bidders to host the 2002 ISC World Tournament, the Kitchener-Waterloo Tournament Committee has given the Inter-National Softball Congress an additional $4200 (in Canadian funds) to be distributed equally to traveling participants in the 2002 World Tournament. The basic Travel Team Fund amount of $10,000 was distributed to teams last September.
"When they submitted their bid, they promised that if their gross revenues exceeded a specified amount, a portion of it would be given back to the ISC for team travel
reim-bursement", announced Ken Hackmeister, ISC Executive Director. "They did indeed exceed that amount, and we are delighted to distribute this equally to the 39 teams who traveled to Kitchener-Waterloo for the World Tournament."
Hackmeister noted that the amount in U.S. funds which the ISC has now paid to each of the 39 teams is $66.87 (in U.S. funds). As agreed, the host team does not share in this funding. All of the money was distributed to the teams; none was kept in the ISC General Fund.
In addition, the Kitchener-Waterloo Tournament Committee has made a $1000 (U.S.) donation to the Carrol Forbes Foundation with a request that the money be spent at the rate of $200 per year for the next five years to support the "Bridge to the Future" clinic. This clinic, to be presented at the site of the annual ISC World Tournament, was launched successfully during the 2002 tournament in Kitchener-Waterloo. The second of these clinics will be held in Kimberly, WI. in August, 2003.
"We are delighted that the tournament was such a financial success for the good people who worked so hard to get it, and then to put it on. As many have learned over the years, hosting an ISC World Tournament provides a sponsoring organization with outstanding opportunities to serve their communities and the sport of fastball," observed ISC chief Hackmeister.
