FOUR TEAMS STILL PERFECT IN ISC EVENT

Four unbeaten teams are left in the International Softball Congress 23 under fast-pitch softball North American championship after a busy day of action Friday in Sioux City at Diamonds of Champions.

Munger (Mich.), Manitoba, Winterset (Iowa) and Portage (Wis.) advanced to the winners bracket semifinals with victories Friday.

Munger spanked Wrotexter, Ontario, 11-0 in a game that lasted five innings. Wroxeter failed to get a hit in the contest. Brent Lynch smacked a three-run homer for the winners in the fifth inning and also had a RBI single in the third.

Winterset erupted for four runs in the second inning and trimmed Harriston, Ontario, 5-2. Winning pitched Travis Stram had five strikeout and scattered eight hits. The A’s needed only two hits to score their four runs in the second, mixing in two walks.

Portage 51 Classic drubbed Green Bay Tish Mills 17-0 in five frames. Portage hurler Dan Wall threw a no-hitter. Andy Wherler and Todd Zydowisky paced the offense with four RBIs and three RBIs respectively; Zydowisky hammered a two-run round-tripper in the second. The 51 Classic iced the game with nine runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Manitoba beat Junkers Bar and Grill, a team from Vernon Center, Minn., 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the eighth. James Kroeker tripled to lead off the inning for the Mudcats and came home on Mike Foster’s single.

Munger meets Manitoba in a 2 o’clock game this afternoon on Field 1. Winterset squares off against Portage at 4 p.m. on Field 1.Friday’s action started with the final two first-round games as Portage bombed Rockford 10-2 and Harriston blanked Vernon CenterII 5-0. Scott Bauer sparked Portage’s win with a fifth-inning grand slam.

Harriston pitcher Bill Monkman pitched a four-hitter and the Storm capitalized on two Vernon Center errors.

Meylor Chiropractic of Sioux city handed Vernon Center II a 6-5 defeat in a losers bracket game a s Derek Coyle and James Eaglechasing combined for the pitching win. Coyle also stroked a two-run single in the first and slugged a solo homer in the third.

Sioux Falls Ebert’s pitcher Matt Bushard dialed a no-hitter in a 7-0 verdict over the other Sioux City team in the field, Joanna Trucking. B.J. Boom hammered a two-run homer in the third for the Sioux Falls club.

All 13 teams entered in the tournament are still alive heading into today’s games, which begin at 9:30 a.m. The last game of the day is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start. The championship game will take place at 1 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
