The home field wasn’t much of an advantage for Sioux city’s two entries in the 1998 International Softball Congress (ISC) North American 23-under fast-pitch softball
championship.
The Munger (Mich.) Bulldogs handed Sioux City’s Joanna Trucking a 7-0 defeat in the first game of the tournament and Manitoba bounced. Sioux City Meylor Chiropractic 8-0. Winterset tripped Sioux Falls Ebert’s 5-2. In the third, and final game on the opening day of the tournament.
Munger collected 12 hits against Joanna Trucking, taking a 1-0 lead on a solo home run in the bottom of the second. The Bulldogs added another run in the fourth and put the game away with five runs on five hits one error in the sixth.
Manitoba also benefited from big innings in its five-inning victory over Meylor, scoring four runs in the third and three in the fourth. Winning pitcher Chad Klassen dialed a one-hitter.
Winterset snapped a 2-2 tie against Ebert’s with three runs in the sixth.
