Host Grasel Graphics Wins ISC 19-And-Under Crowns

The third time was the charm for a Frankenmuth-based 19-and-under men’s fastpitch team.Grasel Graphics captured the 13-team International Softball Congress North American East Division Fastpitch Tournament crown this past weekend in Heritage Park.

The victory earns GG a trip to Kimberly Wisconsin to take on the West Division champion, Chilliwauk, British Columbia, The best-of-five series will run Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 23.

Grasel Graphics won its first four games Friday and early Saturday before falling to Wroxeter. 3-2 in the quarter finals.

Grasel then began the long crawl out of the loser’s bracket, beginning at 9 am Sunday morning. The team blanked Elmira, Ontario, 1-0 and then took on neighboring Munger and won in eight innings, 4-3.The wins set up a two-game finale in which Grasel Graphics got its revenge. The team won 8-0 to set up the crown.

The team included three Franenmuth residents in Jamie Carnes, Chris Cramer and Chad Stasik. Other Michigan players included Everett Kettelhut, Steve Bouvy and Adam Osantowski of Reese, Nathan Mginnis and Kenny Radford of Mt. Morris, Todd Moore of Clio, Allan and Andrew Phibbs and Brent Fehrman- all of Hagersville, Ontario.

The manager was Tom Stasik of Frankenmuth, along with coached Adam Kern of Frankenmuth and Hub Fehrman of Hagersville.

Andrew Phibbs and Fehrman led Grasel with several stellar pitching performances. Stasik also credits the players for jelling together, having confidence and for giving their best effort in each and every game.

Stasik and the team will begin fund-rasing efforts for their trip to Wisconsin.
