When the Board of Directors of the International Softball Congress approved a new "international" berth for a non-North American team last August they weren't messing around!

Today the I.S.C., through Executive Director Ken Hackmeister (KLSPORTS@aol.com), announced that arrangements have been made to include the national team of the Czech Republic in the 2002 I.S.C. World Tournament to be held in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, August 9 17, 2002.

Hackmeister was pleased as he welcomed the first European team ever to compete in an International Softball Congress World Tournament, "We are delighted to welcome the Czech Republic national team to our tournament."

The action of the I.S.C. Board authorized a continuing effort by the organization to get at least one non-North American team into the World Tournament each year. It didn't take long for the newly installed Executive Director, with assistance from International Commissioner Bill Hillhouse, to follow through with this authorization.

According to Hackmeister, "This is just the first step. Certainly the top level of men's fastpitch competition will benefit from this expansion in the scope of our World Tournament."

The Czech Republic team will join 39 other squads from North America in the first International Softball Congress World Tournament ever to be staged in the province of Ontario.

It is anticipated that the Czech team will also participate in other games or tournaments in the U.S. or Canada before or after their World Tournament competition. The I.S.C. is assisting the Czech team in making arrangement for such additional contests.
