Blue Ribbon Panel Named To Evaluate The Game

It's no secret that the game of male fastpitch softball is in trouble and it's well past time to seriously address the health of the game. Since last August six men's major teams in North America have ceased operating. All six were ranked in the ISC's top 25 poll last season.

The International Softball Congress is taking the initiative to formally address the state of the game by naming a 10 member Blue Ribbon Panel to evaluate every aspect of the game and make recommendations by next August. The panel's charge is what must be done to make the game of male fastpitch softball more appealing to players, sponsors and fans?

The panel will set its own agenda of topics. All panel work will be done via the Internet with each committee member copying all other committee members with their input.

ISC At-Large Commissioner, Brad Morgan of Amarillo, TX, will chair this Blue Ribbon Panel. Brad chaired an ISC ad-hoc committee last winter in this same manner and did an outstanding job of keeping discussions focused, setting response deadlines, summarizing input and calling for votes.

The panel is non-political. While being formed by the ISC, Brad Morgan is the only ISC Commissioner included. We have specifically requested and received cooperation and panel membership from Softball Canada, ASA and NAFA. The panel's final recommendations will be sent to all North American Softball organizations.

The make-up of panel members includes players, managers, sponsors, administrators, Canadians and Americans. We feel this is a tremendously intelligent, talented and diverse group of individuals who are passionate about the game.

The panel members include:
1. Al Ruegsegger So. California Sponsor, former commissioner, former player.
2. Doug Lindaman Iowa Player, administrator and ASA Player Rep.
3. Craig Crawford Kitchener, Ontario Player, Player Rep and administrator
4. Mike Groves Arlinton, VA Sponsor, player, manager
5. Jim Williamson Yakima, WA NAFA Vice Pres manager, player, sponsor

8. Dave Parker Midland, TX Former NAFA comm., player, manager, sponsor
9. Steve Kooser Topeka, KS Mgr. assn. rep, former player, manager, sponsor
10. Brad Morgan Amarillo, TX - Chairman Canadian citizen, ISC Commissioner
