From: Wisconsin/Upper Michigan ISC Area Commissioner Bob Tomlinson
It is with great pleasure that the International Softball Congress through Area Commissioner Bob Tomlinson announces that the first-ever Wisconsin ISC II Area Tournament will be held in Denmark, Wisconsin on June 7-9, 2002. The Tournament hosts will be the Denmark Merchants and DJ's Tavern. The winner of the tournament will be awarded a berth in the first-ever ISC II Tournament to be held August 13-17, 2002 in Kitchener, Ontario. The dates coincide with the final five days of the ISC World Tournament to be held in Kitchener.
The first-ever Wisconsin/Upper Michigan ISC II Area Tournament is open to all but six teams in the state of Wisconsin/Upper Michigan. The entry fee is $225. There will be a graduated scale for prize money and travel money to be awarded based on the number of entries. If 16 teams enter the tournament, no less than $2250 in prize money and awards will be included. The winner of the tournament will have its entry fee paid to the world tournament and will be awarded no less than $500 (total of $750). Second place would be awarded $500, third place would receive $400 and fourth place would win $300. Compare this cash payout to other tournaments involving teams from this classification of play. The more teams that enter means more money will be awarded. If 20 teams enter the cash payout will increase to no less than $2700. If 24 teams enter the cash payout will increase to $3200.
The entry deadline is May 18th. Checks should be made payable to Wisconsin ISC/Bob Tomlinson. Mail entry fee and form to Bob Tomlinson, N4944 US Hwy 51, Poynette, WI 53955.
The tournament draw will be conducted on May 25th and all teams will be notified of first round game times immediately.
This tournament is open to all Wisconsin teams and teams from any adjoining ISC Areas that do not hold an ISC II Area Tournament (Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa) with permission from their respective ISC Area Commissioner.
The format is double elimination.
Area Commissioner Tomlinson is excited at the prospect of hosting the event: "Denmark is a great site for our first-ever ISC II Area Tournament. The Wisconsin ISC looks forward to continuing its relationship with Denmark. Some great ISC events have been staged there in the past and at Circle Tap."
Tomlinson noted that "Every penny of the entry fees will go toward running the tournament and toward prize money."
A large field is expected for the tournament and "We will not cut off entries until the deadline date of May 18th is reached," according to Tomlinson.
Denmark Merchants team leader Lee Kapinos expressed his enthusiasm, "The Denmark Merchants are really excited about hosting this event. We are going to make this a tournament what everyone will talk about in positive ways. We look forward to working with Bob Tomlinson. The past two ISC Area Tournaments he staged at Circle Tap were extraordinary. This will be a great event for men's fastpitch in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan."
