Box, Wilson, Casley, McGowan nominated for induction

The International Softball Congress today elected three players to the Hall of Fame along with naming Bob McGowan as the recipient of the Bob Welby Memorial Award for Recognition of Service.

Darren Box, Spruce Grove, AB, was the MVP of the 2001 ISC World Tournament and a three-time World Champion. He was named to the First All World Team three times and to the Second All World Team once. He also led the World Tournament in RBIs in 2002.

Travis Wilson, Tallahasee, FL, originally from Christchurch, NZ, is a member of an elite group of players who have been selected to five or more First ISC All World Teams. He played in three ISC championship games during his career, finishing with a .363 lifetime batting average with 16 HRs and 42 RBIs in nine World Tournaments.

Rhys Casley, of Hutt Valley, NZ, was named to three First ISC All World Teams during his career. He won two ISC World Championships and played in the ISC Championship game five times in 10 World Tournament appearances. Casley was the leading hitter twice, in 2004 and in 2011.

Bob McGowan, of Freelton, ON, served as an ISC Commissioner and Regional VP for Canada East from 1996-2006 and again from 2019-2021. He was the founder of ISC II, which introduced the ISC to a new division of teams, significantly expanding the ISC's team count in the next two decades. His influence in the ISC continues today due to the foundational work he put in place in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Along with players Ryan Wolfe and Gerald Muizelaar, who were elected in 2020, Box, Wilson, Casley and McGowan will be inducted into the ISC Hall of Fame at the 2022 ISC World Tournament in Quad Cities.

At 32 years old, Yuya Tamawaki continues to rise in the fastpitch ranks as a key pitcher for the Georgian Bay Giants . Returning for another ISC season, Yuya isn’t just focused on controlling the game from the mound—he’s also determined to contribute at the plate and build on his team's past performance. Early Start and Family Influence Yuya’s love for fastpitch was born early. “I started playing when I was eight,” he says, “because my father played softball. He inspired me to get into the sport and pursue it seriously.” That early family connection helped lay the foundation for a disciplined and focused athlete. Yuya’s biggest mentor? Former national pitcher Nobunori Nishimura , whose influence helped Yuya develop both technically and mentally. The ISC Experience Yuya first competed in the ISC World Tournament last year and described the experience as unforgettable. “The speed of the game and the intensity—it’s something you don’t get even in baseball,” he says. “It was an honor to compete against top players from around the world.” For ISC newcomers, Yuya offers thoughtful advice: “It’s okay to feel nervous, but try to relax. When you're enjoying the moment, you'll often perform your best.” One of his most memorable ISC moments came simply from being on the field with elite talent from across the globe. “It was eye-opening to see the level of play up close.”
