Ric Thompson Joins ISC as New Regional Commissioner

The ISC is pleased to welcome Ric Thompson, from Fond du Lac, WI, as the newest US Central Regional Commissioner.

"I am extremely honored to be a part of the ISC leadership where I can help grow this sport not only at the local level but globally as well," says Ric. "I look forward to working with the ISC and it's board of directors for many years to come as we look to improve and grow a sport that has given me so much over my career!"

Ric was literally born into the game in 1978 with his Mom going into labour at the Circle Tap field while his Dad was pitching in the middle of the fifth. Mom and son were fine and Dad finished the game. :-)

Ric has been a player on Wisconsin teams going back to 1997, and has managed most of those years, as well. Most recently, he's the sponsor, manager and a player on the AHI Reapers since 2017. The Reapers finished in a team-best tie for 9th at the 2022 ISC World Tournament.

"I look forward to Ric joining the board of directors and we believe that, based on his long association with our game, he will be an asset to the ISC in the coming years," says ISC Executive Director Larry Fisher.

Welcome aboard Ric!

A Love for the Game Rooted in Family From the moment Mitchell Armstrong first stepped onto the diamond at age five, softball became more than just a sport—it became a family affair. Coached by his mother throughout his youth and inspired by his Grandpa Jack, Mitchell’s early years were filled with passion, discipline, and drive. “My mom and brother have pushed me to become the player I am today,” he says. “They always encouraged me to do my best and love the game.” The Dirt Guy Known affectionately as “The Dirt Guy,” Mitchell embraces a unique pre-pitch ritual: grabbing a handful of dirt before every pitch. “It reminds me of the happiness this sport gives me,” he shares. “And it helps my hands stay dry!” Hard Lessons, Stronger Resolve In 2011, a fractured foot kept Mitchell from playing in his first provincials—a heartbreaking setback that taught him the importance of caution and preparation. That experience fueled his determination to stay mentally and physically ready for every big stage, including multiple ISC World Tournament appearances.
