Nick White: Young Outfielder Shining Bright for Hill United Chiefs

Brian Eradus • June 13, 2025

At just 21 (soon 22) years old, Nick White is emerging as one of the most exciting young outfielders on the international fastpitch scene. Wearing jersey #4 for the powerhouse Hill United Chiefs, the Truro, Nova Scotia native is turning heads not just with his speed and glove, but with his all-in team mentality and relentless drive to improve.

From Backyard Catch to International Star

Nick’s love for fastpitch started young, playing backyard catch with his father and suiting up for Murphys Fish and Chips when his family moved to Nova Scotia in 2010. “Softball was always the sport that came most naturally to me,” Nick explains. “I played just about everything, but softball was the one I always looked forward to.”

As a kid, he was inspired by local legends like coach Tim Macumber (who played for the Canadian National Team) and his father, who taught him the fundamentals. As he grew older, big names like Justin Schofield and Bradley Ezekiel became role models—and now, they’re his teammates.

Rising to the Challenge

While Nick has natural speed, he’s worked hard to evolve his offensive game. “Using my speed more effectively was something I had to learn—especially aggressive baserunning and slap bunting to put pressure on defenses,” he says. In 2024, he flashed some of that promise on the international stage, and heading into 2025, he’s focused on building consistency and helping his team repeat as champions.

“My goal is simple: be the best teammate I can and help the team win,” Nick says. “Whatever role I’m given, I’m ready.”

ISC Spotlight and Mental Edge

Nick describes the ISC World Tournament as “the best of the best” and credits the Chiefs’ leadership for keeping the team locked in. “The level of compete is amazing—everyone’s pulling on the same rope, and no one wants to lose,” he says. One of his favorite memories? Winning the ISC title, calling it a “huge accomplishment and a true team effort.”

To prepare for high-pressure moments, Nick focuses on staying within himself: “I don’t try to do too much. I remind myself to stay intense, support the guys around me, and play the game within the game.”

Building the Future of the Game

Looking ahead, Nick wants to see even more youth involvement—especially back home in Nova Scotia. “We’ve worked hard here to promote the game and make sure every kid has a place to play,” he says. “Hopefully, that leads to stronger senior leagues and more players striving for the highest level.”

Advice to Young Players

Nick’s advice for young athletes?
✅ Learn the fundamentals
✅ Practice outside of official games
✅ Be a good teammate
✅ Never be afraid to slow things down and fix your mechanics in the offseason

He’s big on year-round preparation, analyzing swing mechanics, staying in shape, and working on mental toughness. “Softball is a game of stress and pressure—you’ve got to learn how to deal with that and stay focused every at-bat,” Nick explains.
